Description The Research Consulting Lead performs basic observational and experimental scientific, technological, health economics and outcomes investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge and to guide business decisions. The Research Consulting Lead works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial. Responsibilities Humana Healthcare Research needs your strategic leadership, knowledge of academia and research methods to ensure Humana and its academic partners meet our collaborative research goals. Humana Healthcare Research partners with key academic partners to produce relevant and credible research to produce insights into the practice of evidence based medicine, health outcomes, health policy and more. Were passionate about working with a diverse range of academic and community partners to improve healthcare. Humana Healthcare Research is seeking an Academic Research Relationship Consulting Lead to ultimately identify, define and lead our work with academic and community research partnerships. The lead will collaborate with other team members in the design, implementation, analysis and interpretation of research that aligns to Humanas Enterprise Research Strategy and our academic and community research partners goals. The main responsibilities of the Academic Research Relationship Lead include, but are not limited, to the following activities: + Defines and guides academic research collaboration strategy including the identification of academic partners and community partners and subsequent establishment and maintenance of those relationships. + Ensures Humana and its research partners, including the University of Houston, meet collaborative targets related to research output, including grant fundingPartners closely with the Strategic Relationship team to maintain research relationships with strategic partners. + Enhances Humana brand and credibility by engaging academic researchers in key ERA studies + Ensures collaborative research aligns with Humanas Enterprise Research Agenda and leads ERA portfolio development as needed + Understands Humanas business needs in order to identify areas and studies of mutual interest comfortable with a broad range of healthcare research topics including clinical sciences, health policy and public health. + Coordinates events with academic partners, including student poster sessions and other onsite engagement events + Explores mechanisms by which Humana might fund or recognize research with academics research awards at various forums, research grants and more + Establish, support and maintain governance processes for research collaborations as needed; will vary by research partner + Ensures internal business partners and Humana leadership are appropriately informed of research collaboration activities. + Motivates team members to engage academic research partners. + Proactively identifies studies in need of academic partnership and works with research consultant to engage the best academic partner + Advise and ensure appropriate legal documentation is in place for collaboration (data use agreements, etc.) + Participates in research, including study design, methodology, analyses, interpretation of results and communication of results + Prepares comprehensive documents including statements of work, study protocols, executive summaries. + Participates in medical writing tasks and publishes at scientific forums (see Medical Writer role description; exact portion of time to be agreed upon with leader). + TRAVEL may travel up to 20-25% given the need to build and establish relationships with academics and present research awards. Required Qualifications + Masters or PhD with Healthcare / research -oriented focus (e.g., pharmacy, public health, epidemiology, outcomes research, biostatistics) + 4+ years of relevant work experience + Prior work experience in claims based research or health services research or health policy research in a managed care or a healthcare research organization + Excellent verbal and written communication + Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse group of clinicians and academics + Attention to detail, ability to multitask and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities + Demonstrated ability to lead and influence peers and leaders without direct authority + Strong understand of research methodology and business acumen + Prior experience working with senior leadership across a large healthcare and/or academic institution Preferred Qualifications + Teaching and/or research experience in higher education + Experience obtaining research grants, etc. + Strong understanding of research methodology and the managed care arena, and how it applies to health economics and outcomes research, epidemiology and safety, comparative effectiveness and late phase research + Health policy experience + Understanding of managed care industry + Project management skills, including lean and/or six sigma Additional Information Humana is an organization with careers that change lives including yours.
