ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT – FEDERAL AFFAIRS

Near Capitol Hill

 

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) is currently seeking an Assistant Vice President of Federal Affairs in its Washington D.C. office. NAMIC is the largest property/casualty insurance company trade association, with nearly 1,400 member companies serving more than 170 million auto, home, and business policyholders. For more than 121 years, NAMIC has been serving in the best interests of mutual insurance companies – large and small – across the nation.

 

The position of AVP- Federal Affairs will be responsible for assisting NAMIC’s SVP - Government Affairs in designing and implementing legislative and regulatory strategies to advance NAMIC’s federal public policy agenda.  

 

The well-qualified candidate will have extensive federal legislative, regulatory, and political experience, as well as proven success in leading a team to achieve organizational goals and desired legislative outcomes.  To be successful in this position you must have excellent relationships on Capitol Hill, among industry stakeholders and with member constituencies.

 

Essential functionsof the position include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Develop comprehensive advocacy strategies to advance NAMIC’s legislative goals and priorities.
  • Manage a team to effectively pursue NAMIC’s policy agenda.
  • Lobby members of Congress and their staff on legislation on behalf of NAMIC and its member companies.
  • Develop strategies to leverage PAC and grassroots resources.
  • Identify emerging legislative issues of importance to the industry, evaluate the impact and develop strategic plans.
  • Draft congressional testimony, issue papers, weekly and monthly periodicals, grassroots letters, legislative and executive branch communications, membership issue alerts, updates and presentations;
  • Work closely with NAMIC leadership, standing committees, and task forces to provide strategic recommendations on public policy solutions.
  • Represent NAMIC at political fundraisers and events;
  • Build and maintain relations with elected officials and staff, industry partners and coalitions, and other related thought leaders; and
  • Work with other public policy groups to identify priorities and development positions that support NAMIC’s objectives.
