Are you passionate about improving our nation’s child welfare system? The American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) Department of Federal Affairs is seeking a motivated Child Welfare and Health Policy Project Coordinator to support an exciting new grant-funded project focused on the child health benefits of quality foster parenting, access to health services, and related public policy issues. This position will entail providing administrative and project support for a project focused on the child health impact of quality foster parenting and access to care for children and youth in foster care, including supporting AAP federal policy work before Congress, regulatory and judicial bodies, AAP state chapters, and partner advocacy groups.

This is a one-year grant-funded position, with the possibility of continuation beyond one year based on grant and candidate performance and the availability of external funds. Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public health, social work, or related field or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience required (Master’s preferred), 1-2 years related experience in project coordination required, preferably within a non-profit working on health or social services issues. Experience supporting grant projects and working with child welfare policy and programs strongly preferred. Direct experience with the foster care system and a passion about these issues highly desirable. The ability to employ diplomatic tact in professionally engaging a diverse community of partners and stakeholders is essential. Some weekend work and travel required.
