Job Details

The National Association of Manufacturers is seeking an experienced energy and resources policy professional to join it's dynamic energy and resources policy team.  The Director, Energy and Resources will make contacts and confer with the Administration, members of Congress as well as association members in developing and implementing the NAM's official policy position(s) on a range of energy and environmental issues.


Join the NAM and Make an Impact in the Following Ways:


  • Analyze proposed energy and environmental policy and legislation to determine possible effect on the interests of NAM member companies; conduct policy background research in order to familiarize oneself with the issues and be conversant with the subject matter. 
  • Confer with legislators and Administration officials to emphasize weaknesses or merits of specific bills to influence passage, defeat, or amendment of measure, or introduction of legislation more favorable to NAM members' interests. 
  • Proactively engage with NAM member companies on issues within area of expertise and responds to member companies' requests, questions and concerns in a timely, accurate and professional manner.  Oversee monthly member newsletter of Department's work.
  • Contact individuals and groups having similar interests in order to encourage them to contact legislators and present views. 
  • Prepare Hill letters, agency comments, news releases, policy points, issue briefs, testimony, talking points and formal comments to the EPA and other relevant agencies.  Contribute to the association's regular newsletters and blog.  Work with the NAM communications department to collaborate on strategies, conduct news conferences and to respond to media inquiries. 
  • Plan and coordinate meetings, conferences and other communication forums between members and elected officials in developing NAM policy and allow officials to respond to NAM concerns; confer with Congress and/or other governmental regulatory agencies in developing policy positions. 
  • Contact regulatory agencies and testifies at public hearings, Congressional sessions and member involvement activities to enlist support for members' interests. 
  • Attend and represents local organizations at state and national association meetings.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervisory responsibilities encompass shared administrative support.





  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four year college or university, with a law degree preferred;
  • Plus approximately 6 years of association, agency, law firm and/or Hill experience;
  • Experience handling media inquiries is helpful;
  • An in-depth understanding of the various air and water quality challenges facing U.S. manufacturers;
  • Thorough knowledge of the public policy process and current contacts on Capitol Hill;
  • Excellent communications (verbal and written) skills,
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively in a goal and deadline driven environment.
