Hudson Institute seeks a Director of Finance to lead the finance and accounting department, be an active member of the senior management team, and actively support the work of Hudson’s scholars and staff.    

                               

Position Summary:  The Director of Finance is responsible for strategic management of all finance and accounting personnel, processes, and financial records. The Director ensures accurate recordkeeping, works closely with senior management and the Board of Trustees on budget planning and corporate policies, leads implementation and adoption of financial technologies (software, apps, etc.), and manages the annual audit.



Essential Position Responsibilities:


Finance

  • Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models, and activity-based financial analyses to provide insights into the organization’s operations.
  • Present Institute financials monthly—on both accrual and cash basis.
  • Manage cash flow, and ensure availability of funds.
  • Manage banking and investment relationships.

 

Accounting and Administration

  • Manage accounting team, supervising directly two personnel: Controller and Staff Accountant.
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of all recordkeeping, budgets, and accounting systems.
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of project financials for federal contracts and foundation grants.
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate audits and proper tax filings.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.

 

Audit, Investments, and Board of Trustees

  • Manage annual audit, working closely with the Board of Trustees’ Audit and Risk Committee.
  • Act as point of contact with the Institute’s investments custodian and ensure reporting meets approval of senior management and the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Coordinate Committee meetings on these topics as necessary.


Management

  • Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team.
  • Represent the Institute to financial partners, including financial institutions, auditors, and public officials.
  • Remain current on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.

 

Additional Performance Requirements:

  • Demonstrated leadership capacities, including managing others and ensuring timeliness of deliverables.
  • Broad experience in audit, as well as gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Well organized, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and abstract reasoning skills.
  • Excellent writing skills—capable of presenting complex financial scenarios clearly and efficiently.
  • Technology savvy essential, with experience in, or demonstrated capacity to learn, Intacct accounting software.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Bill.com, and ExpensePath a plus.
  • Strong character and personable manner.
  • 5+ years’ experience in non-profits.
