The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Director for its Plastics Division. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.

This position is responsible for serving as the staff lead for the self-funded Plastic Foodservice Packaging Group (PFPG), including providing strategic direction as well as hands-on management of a large number of state and local advocacy initiatives. The position is also responsible for leading and managing all aspects of PFPG’s budget, effectively managing a number of outside vendors, leading member meetings, as well as developing and maintaining essential relationships with allied organizations and groups along the packaging value chain to support both plastic foodservice and other plastic packaging. The position reports directly to the Managing Director, Plastic Markets.


Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, or related field, Master or doctoral level degree in scientific and/or technical area preferred; five years project/issue management experience, five years of issue advocacy, public policy or related experience, experience in an industry trade association, or in the plastics, packaging or consumer product sector preferred; strong written and oral communications skills, as well as the ability to give both internal and external presentations, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, to absorb and assimilate information quickly, and to be an enthusiastic advocate as well as the ability to travel to support advocacy, including possible occasional international travel are a must. Certification in relevant specialty areas and membership in relevant professional societies are preferred.
