The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) currently has an opening for a Federal Affairs Coordinator in its Washington D.C. office.  NAMIC is the largest property/casualty insurance company trade association, with nearly 1,400 member companies serving more than 170 million auto, home, and business policyholders. For more than 121 years, NAMIC has been serving in the best interests of mutual insurance companies – large and small – across the nation.

 

This individual will be a part of, and provide support for, NAMIC’s federal legislative team in the implementation of legislative and regulatory strategies, communications, and policies on behalf of NAMIC member companies.  The ideal candidate is one who has the ability to work independently, but is also ready and willing to collaborate as part of a team.  The candidate will have managed complex assignments and projects and is able to quickly become proficient on issues affecting NAMIC and its members.

 

Essential functionsof the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Support the broader federal legislative team as needed in advancing priority issues on behalf of NAMIC members;
  • Research, analyze, and track federal issues and trends impacting the property/casualty insurance industry including preparing memoranda and briefing materials;
  • Conduct appropriate research, investigation, and examination of federal issues resulting in reports useful for issue management, advocacy, and communication;
  • Monitor the Congressional hearing schedule every week and identify hearings of interest and/or opportunity;
  • Attend and report on hearings as needed;
  • Monitor introduced legislation and identify potential issues impacting property/casualty insurers;
  • Monitor the Federal Register daily and identify potential issues impacting property/casualty insurers;
  • Assist in coordinating legislative team meetings and agendas;
  • Coordinate the creation and submission of quarterly lobbying reports;
  • Assist in drafting, editing, and proofing congressional testimony, issue papers, weekly and monthly periodicals, grassroots letters, Legislative and Executive Branch communications, membership issue alerts, updates and presentations;
  • Assists with coordination of activity to ensure that issues are communicated quickly and accurately to appropriate parties;
  • Contribute and assist in advocacy website content management;

 

Qualifications of this job include but are not limited to:

 

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience on Capitol Hill or the equivalent in the private sector.
  • Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes at the federal level.
  • Experience working in government sector, trade association, or government affairs highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry a plus.
