JOB CLASS:     Individual Contributor                   LOCATION:     Washington DC                     

POSITION SUMMARY: The Field Producer is responsible for conducting taped and live interviews with lawmakers and other notable figures in Washington or its surroundings.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Booking guests at the direction of the executive producer and host – including enterprising guests with unique pitches
  • Conduct interviews with lawmakers and other decision-makers in Washington DC.
  • Must be actively engaged with and knowledgeable of the current issues and topics impacting the Federal Government
  • Able to go where the story is – lawmaker’s office, stake out a public hearing, etc.
  • Understand proper credentialing needed to conduct various types of shoots around the DC Area
  • Advises News team regarding preconceived ideas vs. physical realities of production setting
  • Use live transmission equipment for the interview to be conducted remotely or conduct the interview themselves
  • Knowledge of video camera equipment needed, including appropriate lighting, framing, placement of microphone, and audio monitoring
  • Digitally edit and assemble material when necessary
  • Test all equipment to determine technical quality of recording, audio and lighting apparatus prior to operation the field
  • Oversees the security, operation, and maintenance of equipment utilized in shooting and editing







EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: B.A. in Television/Film or related and at least one year experience operating video cameras and editing equipment. News experience required. Political experience is a plus.



  • Strong political/Washington DC knowledge necessary
  • Capitol Hill Press Credentials a plus
  • Assertive and competitive; doesn’t like to “get beat” on a story
  • Good organizational and project management skills
  • Knowledge of TV broadcasting rules and regulation
  • Desire to bring creative ideas and solutions to daily news challenges
  • Knowledge of news/field production techniques and standards
  • Skill in visualizing and shooting concepts effectively
  • Excellent work ethic and communication skills
  • Thorough understanding of computer and server technology/skills
  • Work well in high-pressure and short-deadline situations
  • Self-motivation and drive
  • Organized, with strong multi-tasking abilities; able to move quickly from task to task
