General summary/purpose:

The Department of Pediatrics has approximately 200 faculty/fellows and 600 staff members with an annual budget of over 100 million dollars. The financial analyst will develop non-sponsored budgets, oversee/review accounts, reconcile budget information, and extract and analyze financial data to assist in the management of the Department. In addition, this position will review monthly non-sponsored and clinical financial reports and monitor revenues/expenditures for various business lines. The Divisions business lines include, but are not limited to clinical, general, discretionary and designated funds. In addition, the financial analyst will perform comprehensive analysis relating to business or research trends to improve divisional financial effectiveness and compliance with JHU, JHH and/or agency regulations and restrictions. The main detailed responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to processing departmental financial transactions, preparing monthly financial reports and P&L statements for faculty and administrators, monitoring effort certification, initiating salary support changes in payroll and reducing control salary/overpayments. This position will report directly to the Sr. Finance Manager.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

Budgetary Responsibilities: Assist in preparation of departments annual operating budget. Analyze budget patterns and project expenditures. Monitor expenditures throughout the budgetary period and identify and communicate over expenditures to faculty and administrative staff. Coordinate and participate in the development of unrestricted funds budgets, including programmatic funds and gift accounts.

Financial Reporting/Analysis Responsibilities: Responsible for generation and distribution of monthly reports and creation of new reports to improve monitoring of expenses within the department. Perform monthly budget reconciliation and cost projections to resolve funding shortfalls/budget variances and ensure consistency with budgeted funds. Assist with analyzing divisional variances through MedVitals, SAP or other applicable financial reporting system. Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions with direction, as necessary, from others. Must be able to interpret technical and detailed guidelines, policies and procedures, as well as explain or describe moderately complex information and presentation materials.

Financial Daily/Weekly/Monthly Responsibilities: Submit monthly financial transactions such as KB15Ns, journal entries, and non-payroll cost transfers within the division and with JHH. Process check deposits and gift donations. Reconcile accounts on a monthly basis. Coordinate reduction of control salary within designated areas assigned. Complete monthly reconciliations on designated areas. Monitor and process transactions to correct divisional default accounts. Prepare and process online check requests, travel reimbursements, employee reimbursements, and purchase orders.

Customer Service and Teamwork Expectations: Is courteous and pleasant in person and on the telephone with coworkers, patients, visitors, and supervisors. Serve as a representative of the division. Functions as a team player and works to maintain harmonious working relationships with coworkers, peers and supervisors. Recognize where coworkers need assistance and takes initiative to help. Demonstrate ability for self-direction and initiation, as well as ability to work independently and as part of a team, to address problems/tasks. Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or other related field. Three years progressively responsible related financialccounting experience required.

Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
