General Faculty: Professor of Practice

The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia seeks applications from accomplished members of the policy and advocacy community who are interested in a fulltime, senior level, non-tenure-accruing faculty position in leadership and public policy to begin in August 2018. Candidates must have a distinguished record of public service and leadership in government, international organizations, non-profit, or for-profit organizations. Candidates must be able to mentor master's students in introductory and advanced policy projects for real-world clients and teach core or elective courses on major policy issues or leadership skills. We are especially interested in candidates who have an interest in, or demonstrated capacity for mentoring diverse students and colleagues.

Candidates should also be interested in undertaking research and engagement activities that contribute and influence external domestic or global policy processes. Training or professional experience in rigorous policy analysis, implementation, and/or advocacy and an advanced post-graduate degree are required (Ph.D. preferred). Teaching experience and a record of publication are highly desirable.

Built upon the strong foundation of one of the nation's top public universities, the Batten School combines rigorous training in policy analysis with a unique emphasis on the acquisition of leadership skills. The governing faculty includes economists, political scientists, and psychologists, and our mission is enriched by professors of practice who bring real-world policymaking expertise to the classroom. The School offers the two-year MPP degree, as well as an accelerated MPP program and a selective undergraduate major in public policy and leadership. The School also offers dual degree programs with the Curry School of Education (MPP/ PhD), School of Medicine (MPP/ MPH), Darden School of Business (MPP/ MBA), School of Law (MPP/ JD), and the School of Architecture (MPP/ MUEP). The School has grown rapidly over the past 10 years, and currently has an endowment of over $135 million.

These are fixed-term, multiple-year positions with the possibility of renewal. Specific terms are dependent on qualifications, experience, and rank. Salaries, benefits, and support for research and pedagogic innovation are highly competitive.

To apply, complete a Candidate Profile on-line at https://jobs.virginia.edu by searching on Posting Number 0622139.

For Thomas Jefferson, learning was an integral part of life. The ''academical village" is based on the assumption that the life of the mind is a pursuit for all participants in the University, that learning is a lifelong and shared process, and that interaction between scholars and students enlivens the pursuit of knowledge.
