Government Affairs Specialist (R17-344) Represent the company in external relations with the state legislature and state agencies on public policy and legislation affecting the company. Work cooperatively to develop and execute strategies, represent the company to external audiences, and advise management on public policy matters affecting the company’s business goals, corporate values and customer priorities. Position is responsible for working with the Director, company team and external stakeholders to formulate and implement the company’s legislative plans, and for passage or defeat of legislation affecting the company at the state level. Support our journey by: • Establish and maintain favorable strategic relationships with state legislators, committee staff, agency personnel, other utilities, customer representatives and interest groups. • Work with the Director, the Government Affairs policy team, and internal and external stakeholders to formulate and execute company positions and strategies on state legislative policy matters. • Coordinate with federal, local and regional policy and regulatory staff. • Work closely with customers and other stakeholders to identify and work for the passage or defeat of legislation that affects their interests and does not conflict with the company’s overall objectives. • Work with the Director and other state Government Affairs personnel, including contract lobbyists, to develop and execute state political contribution strategies. • Monitor legislative activity in Washington State and work with PGE contract lobbyist in that state to develop favorable outcomes. • Perform various responsibilities comprising approximately 10% of position including:  Report regularly to management on status of major policy initiatives, legislative agenda and relevant activity during legislative sessions.  Assist with staffing work related to company Public Policy Committee.  Prepare appropriate state lobbyist and contribution reports.

Requirements

You will bring the following skills to our team: • Through knowledge of Oregon legislative and regulatory processes and government relations techniques. • Through knowledge of election and campaign laws relating to political action committees and lobbying process. • Through knowledge of external entities and individuals capable of influencing the legislative and regulatory process. • Working knowledge of utility system regulations, including Oregon Public Utility Commission requirements • Working knowledge of Oregon utility business model. • Working knowledge of key issues affecting the company at local, state, regional, and federal levels. • Extensive experience with Oregon’s legislative process and government relations techniques. • Valid driver’s license and proven safe driving record. Typically, bachelor’s degree in political science or related field and 8-10 years of responsible experience in public policy or equivalent combination of education and experience.
