A Patent & Trademark Law firm in Old Town Alexandria is looking for a Human Resources Manager (Generalist). Hours are 8:30-5:00p.m.  Monday - Friday.  This is an exempt position and salary will be commensurate on experience, degrees, and certifications.  This position reports to the Office Administrator & Executive Committee.  Duties to include:

 

  • Overseeing the firm recruiting for professional and support staff

  • Conducting background investigations and extending offers

  • Onboarding new employees - to include conducting orientation, enrolling new employees into firm healthcare plans, and completing onboarding paperwork

  • Maintaining Personnel Files - ensuring all necessary documents are filled out properly

  • Counseling Managers on disciplinary actions and if necessary participating in disciplinary actions

  • Responsible for all Employee terminations and ensuring complete offboarding - to include terminating employees in firm healthcare plans and working with Controller to ensure COBRA paperwork is completed

  • Responsible for docketing and managing performance reviews - to include introductory reviews and annual staff reviews for support staff.

  • Responsible for docketing and preparing professional staff reviews for reviewing attorneys and Members

  • Responsible for making salary recommendations for staff to the Executive Committee - this includes the docketing, preparing for the staff annual increases, and delivering staff increases

  • Responsible for docketing and preparing the staff Holiday Bonuses and oversee the delivering of firm Holiday bonuses

  • Work with Executive Committee, Administrator, and Controller on benefits negotiations and implementation of healthcare policies

  • Responsible for keeping up on federal and state laws regarding Disability and FMLA

  • Responsible for implementing and tracking all disability claims

  • Responsible for ensuring firm policies and procedures are being followed
