Learning Experience Designer


The Capital One Design team is a diverse team of human-centered designers charged with disrupting how people interact with their money, their bank, and their financial lives. We are change agents bringing new design capabilities to an organization serving 60 million customers. We are thought leaders engaging the greater design community through speaking, teaching, and writing.

Our design education practice generates internal design instructors to teach our communities strategic design, design methods and even, future design skills. Were looking for a Learning Experience Designer to join the People Development team of our design organization. The People Development team within One Design strives to foster a culture of belonging and persistent learning through career growth initiatives.The People Development team has lofty goals our learning experiences are designed to cultivate trusting relationships in support of our journey to become a more inclusive, self-aware organization. This person will support the effort to make that a reality.

The Learning Experience Designer should be an exceptional communicator and be able to work with subject matter experts to creatively transform design concepts/presentations/toolkits and guides/case studies into learning experiences such as training, workshops, and courses. The right individual will have the ability and strong desire to lead the pre, during, and post journey of our programs for trainers and participants, consult, create and deliver engaging, educational workshops and offerings -- both the structure, experience and design of the curriculum as well as the training of subject matter experts to rotate the delivery of these training offerings to stakeholders and associates throughout Capital One. This individual will also be responsible for engaging the Design Thinking learning experience and community as a subject matter expert, as well as teach and develop a trainer program (and accompanying learning paths and content) for Service Design, including service blueprint and experience map creation, participation in empathy interviews, full team prototyping, and so many other opportunities to heavily engage in molding the experiences for our organization. You also need to understand what is happening in the business and benchmark externally to create a best-in-class learning experience.


Contribute to the development of a large scale educational platform to share Service Design + other cutting edge design methods, tools, and trainings with Capital One Design and the broader Capital One organization.

  • Design an inclusive and collaborative environment for learning designers, presenters, facilitators, students, and graduates through effective and targeted programming.
  • Manage and contribute to the Learning Ecosystem program: design and develop materials, plan the learning programs.
  • Continually review, create, and implement strategies focused on identifying and supporting curriculum pathing and consistent, evolving engagement in alignment with the goals and strategy for Capital One Designs People Development team.
  • Comfortably transition between strategic planning to detailed execution.
  • Regularly and systematically use data to improve and refine the Learning Ecosystem curriculum and experience.
  • Be an evangelist of the One Design Learning Ecosystem throughout One Design.
  • Partner with subject matter experts, team strategists and stakeholders to gather requirements and define/refine learning objectives; extract timely case studies to use as examples within curriculum; engage and influence beyond our organization.
  • Participate in a growing Community of Practice for design culture development, meet-ups, sharing of best practices, platforms for sharing tools and methods and standardization/sharing common Service Patterns across Capital One as they develop across LOBs.
  • Provide mentorship and technical/design guidance to the team.
  • Provide support of new and innovative content creation initiatives.
  • Review benchmarks for success including tracking and monitoring client satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in curriculum or instructional design.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a corporate training, education role or delivering training, instructing, or teaching.
  • At least 5 years of experience in design strategy, service design, or related design field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience providing coaching and/or feedback to participants, teammates, or associates a plus.
  • 5+ years experience with VR, gamification, or eLearning software such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline a plus.
  • 4+ years experience developing, leading, and managing the creation and delivery of educational training, workshops, curriculum and instruction within a large scale platform.
  • 4+ years experience onboarding instructors, facilitators or training-the-trainers using a systematic learning approach, utilizing experience in adult education, leading workshops, facilitating trainings, developing programs, and content layout, goal-based objectives and assessments.
