The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is the national trade association representing manufacturers of electrical and medical imaging equipment. NEMA develops performance and other Standards; crafts and executes advocacy campaigns; and provides analytical products to assist Member companies with business decisions.

The Manager, Government Relations is responsible for developing and advocating NEMA legislative and regulatory priorities at the federal, state, and local levels in coordination with Members. The Manager, Government Relations is responsible for executing advocacy strategies that ensure NEMA Members' interests are reflected in legislation and regulations; including Internet of Things, digitalization and IT and/or telecom connectivity of electrical products and systems.

The Manager, Government Relations, reports to the Vice President, Government Relations. Up to 20 percent travel time is possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor public policy developments and evaluate implications of legislative and regulatory proposals of relevance to NEMA Members
  • Prepare position papers, official comments, and draft legislation
  • Represent NEMA at hearings, consultations, industry events, and conferences
  • Develop strategies and effectively Advocate on energy policy, smart grid, energy infrastructure and related electrical technology issues
  • Develop budget for government relations activities within position scope
  • Draft, issue, and evaluate responses to requests for proposals and complete vendor performance evaluation(s) at contract end


  • Minimum five years policy formulation…legislative, and/or regulatory experience required 
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Experienced in or exposed to trade association organization and activities very useful
  • Familiarity with uses of electricity in industrial, building, lighting, utility and transportation applications highly desired
  • Experience in, or able to quickly master, policy implications of electroindustry-relevant applied digitalization and IT/communications connectivity
  • Knowledge of Congressional and other government ethics rules and reporting/compliance requirements
