Manager - Product Manager - Small Business Bank - Integrated Bank-Card Data Product Lead

As a Product Manager in Small Business Bank, you will collaborate with data, technology, product, marketing, banker, and operations teams across multiple product offerings in order to develop best-in-class financial solutions for small businesses of all shapes and sizes.

On any given day in Small Business Bank youll be:

  • Empowered. Fully owning the success and life cycle of a given set of capabilities or products (such as a comprehensive prospecting tool leveraged by both digital and traditional marketing channels), setting their strategy, and driving towards improvements to your KPIs.

  • Learning constantly. Pushing big change by starting small, testing and learning your way to something new.

  • Innovating relentlessly. Working deeply with technologists, product developers, and data scientists in building cutting- edge solutions on an ever-evolving internal platform.

  • Impactful. Telling stories that change the way people think about building products and solving problems; illustrating the power of what data tools and capabilities can do to make internal customers even more successful.

  • Succeeding strategically. Solving the right problem, and holding off on the wrong one. Working iteratively as new data and resources become available.

In this role responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop the strategy and roadmap for one or more key product/capability initiatives that integrate Small Business Card and Bank data/products. Plan research in these areas and leverage insights to shape the product backlog with an eye towards strategies that will massively improve customer experience while driving growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital Ones Small Business Bank.

  • Human-Centered Research: Participate in Design Thinking exercises, and other human-centered methodologies for innovation to develop meaningful use cases, solve complex problems, and create experiences that meet practical needs for business owners as well as internal customers.

  • Executional Excellence: Partner closely with technology, data, and design teams to bring the product vision to life, delivering features in a lean, iterative, and nimble way. Lead backlog refinement activities within an Agile team, specifically defining and writing user stories and acceptance criteria for platform and product enhancements.

  • Agile Leadership: Drive day-to-day prioritization of work operations, projects and scope; translate product intent to partner teams and bring in other product team members when appropriate. Exhibit a strong command of agile product development, building and coaching a team towards the balance of agile best practices vs. adaptation of process, as appropriate.

  • Growth-Minded Ownership: Exhibit a bias to action and deliver minimum viable products and business models to market at a rapid speed. Continuously leverage qualitative and quantitative data to track progress against strategic goals.

  • Proactive Communication and Teamwork: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One Small Business Bank and Small Business Card in a variety of roles/functions to ensure most cohesive solutions possible. Leverage impeccable written and oral communication frameworks, coupled with strategic influencing skills in order to drive alignment and forward progress across a diverse subset of stakeholders.

  • Learning Focus: Demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity. Pursue forward progress in the face of rapid and constant change.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset and ability to use data to drive decision-making.

  • Strategic thinking and the ability to effectively identify new opportunities but also question existing assumptions.

  • Extensive prioritization and tech/data-product execution experience.

  • Grounding in human centered design with a natural empathy.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills across a variety stakeholders combined with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

  • Highly self-motivated, self-starter that is adept at taking initiative.

  • At least 1 year of digital product management experience.

  • At least 1 year of Agile product management experience.

  • Ideally some experience with people management and/or team leadership.


  • Position open to Richmond or McLean. Candidates should be willing to experience some level of travel between the two office locations on a regular basis.

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree or military experience

- At least 3 years of experience in digital product management

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

- MBA or Masters degree

- 3-5 years of experience translating business strategy and analysis into consumer facing digital products

- 2-4 years of experience in Agile product management
