Principal Risk Associate - Crisis Management

As part of the larger Operational Risk Management organization, the Crisis Management Program provides direction for overall command and control for incidents that threaten or impact Capital Ones business operations. The Crisis Management Program is the mechanism by which the company responds to and recovers from crisis situations.  

We are seeking a highly-motivated individual to lead initiatives involving Capital Ones Crisis Management Program overarching framework, plans, policies, and processes. This role will have the opportunity to apply project & process management, strategic, and analytical skills to some of our highest profile crisis management incidents.  This role has a high level of exposure across lines of business and has the opportunity to create and implement innovative solutions

  • Develop and leverage key relationships with stakeholders that enable collaboration across the enterprise to facilitate preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
  • Facilitate Crisis response training, education & testing of relevant. stakeholders to drive knowledge and identify potential gaps.
  • Identify and track events and issues to mitigate risk to Capital One.
  • Coordinate with applicable business areas to define/ implement remediation activities.
  • Maintain a state of awareness by remaining current on local, national and international events that could potentially impact business operations, associates and customers.
  • Day-to-day oversight of multiple processes: monitor, report, and plan process improvement or redesign initiatives.
  • Drive resolution of issues & actions resulting from Crisis Incidents/Events
  • Identify, propose and manage process enhancements within the Crisis Management Framework, including templates, tools, and other guidance to evolve the program.
  • Lead change control efforts at the process level to ensure impacts are appropriately assessed, documented and implemented.
  • Escalate and report highly sensitive matters to Crisis Management Program leadership as appropriate.
  • Actively participate in team-oriented efforts.
  • Collaborate on larger initiatives, including representing department on broader change control forums for input and to represent department interests.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year of all-hazards crisis management experience
  • At least 2 years of Project Management, Business Process Management or Risk Management experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working with regulatory operations requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk
  • PMP Certification or Masters Certificate of Project Management (CPM)
  • 3 years of developing and facilitating crisis management exercises
  • 3 years of experience in incident response and recovery operations
  • At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients
  • Experience with Emergency Notification systems, particularly OnSolve MIR3
  • Industry certification in Crisis Management
