HII \- MDIS is currently seeking a Senior Director, Technology and Innovation to work out of their Fairfax, VA office\.

HII Mission Driven Innovative Solutions \(MDIS\) is a business group and the leading provider of government services within Technical Solutions \(TS\); a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries \(HII\)\. HII MDIS has over 2100 employees worldwide who deliver critical services to our DoD, IC and Federal/Civilian customers across five service portfolios: IT and Software Applications; Modeling, Simulation and Training; Mission Engineering and Operations Support; Intelligence and Cyberspace Operations; and Logistics and Lifecycle Management\.

HII MDIS is a fast growing government services business within the countries largest military ship building company and the only company to build aircraft carriers\. We are moving from pure play services to solutions and exploring growth options towards complementary products and services to bring more turnkey value to our customers\. This position is seeking someone who wants to be a critical part of building capability\.

**Duties and Responsibilities** \(to include but not be limited to the following\):

+ The Sr\. Director, Technology and Innovation, is responsible for ensuring the development of proposal winning technical solutions, advancing the delivery of technology on existing programs, directing the internal research and development program, advising on technology trends in support of business strategy, and assessing the technical utility of M&A targets\. Key responsibilities include:

+ Manages a team of solutions architects and ensures the development of suitable, effective, and compelling technical solutions in support of proposals\. Chairs technical readiness reviews and issues corrective guidance as part of the BD lifecycle and in support of the BD organization\.

+ Develop and implement initiatives that improve the quality of technological deliverables on existing programs and creates identifiable differentiators amongst our competitors\.

+ Develops and/or oversees the development of MDIS engineering processes and acts as and/or identifies process owners for all such processes\.

+ Advise on the latest technologies and leading solution providers for potential partnerships and/or the development of best practices/approaches for existing services and clients\.

+ Advise on investments in employee professional education, training and certification to ensure we keep pace with industry competitors\. Sponsor MDIS communities of practice and/or foster support for similar efforts at division or corporate\.

+ Regularly engage with the MDIS business units and advise on broad technical matters\. Represent the MDIS group at division and corporate on the technology and innovation council\.

+ Implement and direct the MDIS Internal Research and Development \(IR&D\) program consistent with HII corporate and division policies\. Advise on an annual IR&D budget and review expenditures quarterly\.

+ Establish and maintaining corporate relationships in order to best leverage HII enterprise capabilities to include laboratories and technologies across HII which might be relevant to MDIS technical differentiation\.

+ Support the preliminary and due diligence assessments of M&A targets with respect to the utility of technology to the MDIS and division strategy for growth\. Prepare written technical assessments as part of the final due diligence report\.

+ Advise on strategic and technology investment planning for MDIS and support similar planning at HII corporate and division as required\.

+ Personally model HII values of integrity, safety, honesty, engagement, responsibility and performance; ensures the BU operates in alignment with these values\.

**Qualifications and Experience:**

**Required **

+ Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline or the equivalent in education, training and experience, plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience\. Master's degree and 8 years of relevant work experience\.

+ Minimum of 5 years experience as a CTO, Chief Engineer and/or Senior Solutions Architect for a large business organization\.

+ Direct technical leadership experience in one or more of the areas as follows: software engineering, network engineering, cybersecurity, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and electrical engineering\.

+ Experience overseeing or manning IR&D activities, or experience as a principal investigator or lead researcher for a research organization\.

+ A proven track record of providing winning solutions in support of proposals\.

+ Excellent written and oral communications skills\.

+ Demonstrated experience in building a strong technical team\.

+ Ability to get along with others while working in a fast paced collaborative team environment is essential\. A leader that drives successful results with and through others\.

+ The ability to lead an engaged, diverse and inclusive culture\. Bringing the best out of the workforce creating a culture where employees are empowered and love to come to work\.

+ Active Secret, able to obtain Top Secret clearance

**Preferred **

+ Masters degree in science or technology plus a minimum of 12 years of applicable, progressive professional and supervisory work experience\.

+ PhD or Advanced degrees in in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering\.

+ Experience in organizations with over $500M in annual sales\.

+ Prior CTO experience in a government services business\.

+ Experience as a published author in peer reviewed journals and/or experience as a presenter or key note speaker at large technical conferences\.


+ Must possess and maintain a Secret clearance, and be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance

+ All candidates will be subject to a pre\-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements\.
