Qualcomms Engineering Development team is an HR Center of Expertise that focuses on the design and deployment of strategic talent development initiatives on technical topics for our global engineering population. We consult with senior engineering and project leads to proactively identify technical skill development needs arising due to various factors - deployment of new IP, new methodologies/tools, increase in hiring, M&A, etc. We design various learning interventions, ranging from traditional classroom/online trainings to hackathons, coding contests and rotation programs. We do this by leveraging our engineering background in our discussions, and by adopting a people development mindset in our design. We are a global engineering team (EE/CS) with presence in India, China and the US, and have additional backgrounds in Psychology, Consulting, Academia and R&D.

  • We are looking for a highly motivated, self-driven and results oriented individual with both a software development background and experience on technical education who will be responsible for internal engineering/technical training programs and engineering development initiatives related to SW engineering (these might include topics such as C, C++, Python, Linux, Android, SW Security, ML).
  • The individual will partner with the extended Engineering Development team, with our Strategic Workforce Planning group, with HR Business Partners, and with the executive leadership/ engineering leads/related stakeholders to formulate and drive technical training/learning and engineering development initiatives, focusing on developing engineering competencies necessary for Qualcomm to continue its world-class leadership
  • Leverage technical expertise to develop strong relations with engineering leads, have more contextual discussions with them, and discern learning/productivity needs and gaps. Establishing credibility as someone who has done software development is critical.
  • Deploy central learning budgets to design and develop relevant and innovative learning solutions to meet these needs, and oversee their delivery directly, and through the learning operations team. Evaluate the efficiency of these solutions.
  • Identify and cultivate a strong network of internal technical/engineering subject matter experts, external vendors, academic researchers, and consultants. Attend/present at appropriate external conferences.
  • Develop and lead strategic engineering and technical learning initiatives (internal sessions, custom training programs, internal conferences, onboarding programs, etc), providing strategic guidance to staff and team members.
  • As part of the HR team, represent the engineering community and provide technical perspective/knowledge for key HR initiatives (acquisitions, employee engagement initiatives, new hire integration, university relations etc)
  • Be aligned with senior engineering and program management on key product updates, roadmap changes and proactively intersect any learning/development needs
  • Travel to different engineering sites (mostly domestic US, some international) for needs assessments and lead meetings as needed.
  • Participate with experts, vendors, and instructional designers to design technical training curriculum (instructor led and online/eLearning).

    Minimum Qualifications 5-7 years of total experience:
  • 4+ years working with end-end embedded software development
  • 2+ years experience with front-end or back-end tools and debug
  • 2+ years experience or knowledge of Python
  • 1+ years experience or knowledge of C/C++
  • 2+ years experience in conducting needs assessments and organizational surveys in a large organization
  • 1+ years experience working with senior leadership (VP and above)
  • 2+ years experience making clear and persuasive presentations
  • Preferred Qualifications Instructional design knowledge or experience, Knowledge/experience with embedded software design, Experience managing/tracking budgets, Prior experience presenting/publishing at conferences, Prior experience managing learning events (trainings, conferences, internal summits etc.)
    Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Master's degree preferred. Additional academic training in organizational development, organizational psychology, human resources or management consulting is a strong plus.
