STATE DIRECTOR, WASHINGTON, D.C.

Democrats for Education Reform

Washington, D.C.

Democrats for Education Reform (DFER), a leading progressive political reform organization, seeks an innovative and passionate public education advocate to serve as its next State Director for Washington, D.C. (DC Director or Director).

DFER’s mission is to cultivate and support leaders in the party who champion America’s public school children. It aims to increase both the quantity and quality of elected Democrats who will fight to advance educational equity and to ensure that the Democratic Party, consistent with its progressive values, pursues education policies that enable all students, particularly students from low-income families and students of color, to obtain a globally competitive education that empowers them to fulfill their limitless potential.

The next DC State Director will assume leadership over the chapter at a time of tremendous opportunity. Over the last decade, the District of Columbia invested in a set of education reforms designed to accelerate school improvement. These reforms include expansion of quality public charter schools, closure of low-performing charter schools, and new teacher evaluation, curriculum, and professional development systems in traditional District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). As a leading voice championing school improvement, the DC Director plays a pivotal role in influencing policy outcomes that benefit families across the District.

The Director is responsible for creating and leading the strategy that advances the educational equity mission of DFER in DC. In particular, the Director will develop and implement a political and policy agenda; design and execute successful non-profit and PAC fundraising campaigns; build a diverse network of local allies and partners; and execute a comprehensive communications plan.

Review of nominations and applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. All inquiries, nominations/referrals, and applications (including CVs and letters of interest) should be sent electronically and in confidence to:
