Reporting to the President and CEO, and serving as an integral member of the IDFA Executive Team, the Vice President of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing will be responsible for the development of the International Dairy Foods Association’s (IDFA) communications, public relations and marketing strategies and will contribute to IDFA’s strategic organizational operations. The VP of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing will develop a world-class communications plan for IDFA, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance and protect the organization’s brand reputation. The VP of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing will be responsible for the development, integration and implementation of a broad range of marketing and public relations activities relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization and its leadership. This individual will be an ambassador for the organization and will need to maintain and build relationships with the media. The goal is to advance the organization’s position with relevant constituents, as well as to drive broader awareness and support for the organization. The VP of Communications, Public Relations and Marketing will be responsible for IDFA’s varied and integrated marketing and communications products and services including: newsletters and other print publications; web, e-news and other online communications; media and public relations; and marketing.


Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of all marketing, communication and website content for the organization
  • Create a unified brand front by facilitating consistency in messaging in all communications materials throughout the organization
  • Serve as spokesperson for the organization
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to support the organization’s policy, industry advocacy and membership goals and to protect and promote the image of dairy
  • Establish communication policies, protocols and procedures that prioritize member engagement, and promote with cross-functional department leaders to develop new communications programs and initiatives
  • Position IDFA as thought leader, advisor and influencer in the industry and raise awareness among member companies, policymakers and other key constituents
  • Develop metrics and gauge effectiveness of existing and new communications initiatives
  • Leverage Subject Matter Experts and executive team for content development to elevate awareness of our work to member base and public
  • Oversee the ongoing development and dissemination of public facing media, including materials, including news releases, press statements, media advisories, op-ed pieces, speeches and others
  • Oversee development of IDFA’s social media plans and content
  • Manage media briefings and public events
  • Develop crisp, informed and relevant messages; timely and thoughtful public relations; strategic and forward-thinking media relations; and creative marketing for the organization
  • Provide high-level strategic guidance to strengthen the association’s brand and monitor brand loyalty across all organizational communications, including editorial and design services, digital content, social media and branding
  • Oversee marketing and communications efforts across departments and provide strategic guidance to ensure consistent and clear messaging, while identifying opportunities for cross-promotion
  • Oversee the design and content and continued evolution of the organization’s website ensuring that it is up to date, comprehensive and relevant for members and prospects
  • Serve as strategic counselor to the team by identifying and managing communications for critical emerging policy or member issues and preparing public speeches, talking points and other presentations
  • Work in partnership with SVP, Innovation and Member Advancement and SVP, Finance, Administration and Trade Show on enterprise-wide marketing of organization events and engagement portfolio
  • Lead strategic communications planning and marketing to promote the quality, value and growth of educational offerings


  • 15 years of progressive communications/public relations/marketing experience
  • Expert ability to craft meaningful communications aligned with business strategy and executive voice
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build rapport with associates at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to build effective coalitions and lead and manage a high-performance team
  • Strong strategic planning skills
  • Experience advising and coaching executive leadership and Subject Matter Experts in communication-related issues
  • Experience in media and crisis communications
  • Extensive network and positive working relationships with media contacts in consumer, business and trade press
  • Fundamental communications expertise, especially exceptionally strong writing, editing and presentation skills
  • Strong experience with/knowledge of social media tools and techniques for driving reputation and brand, and advancing messaging in the industry
  • Ability to participate in the development of sound marketing strategies using direct mail, advertising, media and other promotional techniques
  • A disciplined, self-starter who is confident, communicative and reliable
  • Excellent computer skills, including data tracking and project management, and website software experience required
  • Normal office environment requiring use of typical business equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, fax and copier machines); ability to travel to industry events.
